GST, also known as VAT or value added tax in many countries, is a multi-stage consumption tax on goods and services.
GST shall be levied and charged on the taxable supply of goods and services made in the course or furtherance of business in Malaysia by a taxable person. It is also charged on the import of goods.
In the 2014 Budget, the Prime Minister of Malaysia has announced that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) will be implemented effective 1st April 2015 to replace the current Sales and Service Tax regime. On 19th June 2014, the “Goods and Services Tax Act 2014” has been gazetted under Act 462 Malaysia Law.
GST is charged on :
• Any taxable supply of goods & services
• Made in the course or furtherance of any business
• By a taxable person
• In Malaysia
There are 3 types of rates as follows:
• Standard-rated 6%
• Zero-rated 0%
• Exempted – No GST charged
Base on the new GST Act, we, Schenker Logistics (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd have registered as one of the GST registered company under GST No: 000407109632.
Schenker Logistics (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd will charge GST on by issuing a tax invoice and submitting GST returns to the Royal Malaysian Customs Department.
